Celtic Knots are an elaborate maze of twists and turns.  The definition of Celtic Knots describes them as a knot without beginning or finish.  Celtic Knots are i of the few fine art forms left behind past the Celts and they are used readily in decorative art today. Always wonder how to make those beautifully ornate knots?

I actually know how to draw them and I am going to evidence you a bones knot.  I volition as well give you some fun ideas of what to do with them when you first resizing them for your own projects.  Y'all will need graph paper, a pencil, a ruler and one colored pencil or pen to start.

I'll exist honest this is complicated!  But I accept cleaved it down pace past step but like I practise everything, and I think the images will help you as much as anything and so rely heavily on those!

Step 1 – On your graph newspaper ready a rectangle of dots. I am making mine 9 dots past 7 dots if you desire to follow along exactly.  Yous can choose whatsoever odd number per side.  The dots appear at the corners of the squares on the graph paper and skip every other square.Celtic Knot 1

Step 2 – Utilize your colored pencil to create a second rectangle within the first.  These dots sit down directly nether the starting time ones do not skip a square.  The original corner dots exercise non get a colored dot abreast them.

Celtic Knot 2

Step three – Starting time at one corner and utilize your ruler to connect the colored dots.  They will create diagonal lines across your rectangle.

Celtic Knot 3

Footstep iv – Get to the opposite side and connect the colored dots coming back the other management.  This will create a grid filling the middle of your rectangle.

Celtic Knot 4

Step 5 – Now to create the outer edge.  On my image I have done these new lines in a different colored pencil so you tin run into them but you can do this in your pencil.  Offset with the 4 corners, draw a line from the second colored dot upwards through the second pencil dot and out to the outside corner dot.  Render this line to the adjoining side through the second pencil dot and downwards into the 2d colored dot.  Clear equally mud?  Cheque the epitome.  For the sides we are drawing curves starting over again with the 2nd colored dot up through the next pencil dot and and then back down to the side by side colored dot.  You lot are skipping every other dot with this process, again check out the prototype.  Next, get dorsum and create inner curves and corners underneath all the new lines you created.  Footstep 5 is the hardest footstep to explain in words I am sorry!

Celtic Knot 5

Stride 6 – Erase the hard corners that nosotros do not need any more.

Celtic Knot 6

Step 7 – We are going to starting time weaving the lines.  I have added some color to mine again so y'all can run into what I am doing more easily only you are but erasing lines.  Get-go in ane corner and as you move out think of weaving under and over the bands you lot intersect with.  Can you see how I take erased some lines to create the effect of the bands weaving over and nether?

Celtic Knot 7

Footstep 8 – Wind your way through the whole knot until you lot have all the lines erased that need to be.  Detect that as you wind your way over and nether yous will somewhen terminate up right back where you started, that is the unending function of information technology.

Celtic Knot 8

OK so there is the bones knot.  If you made information technology through and ended up with a knot CONGRATULATIONS!  Now what do you do with this?  You tin do different size knots and add them to projects.  How about doing a long skinny knot and wrapping it around an ornament , or turning information technology into an ornament, call back long icicles.  Get in larger and use information technology for the background to a carte du jour, or on a layout.  It could frame a photo on a layout or on your wall.  Have fun with information technology!
